Resurgence of Craft Brewing in Syracuse
Once a major hub for breweries in the 1800s and early 1900s (with companies like the old Haberle Brewing Company
among others), the beer industry in Syracuse shrank dramatically over time — until a wave of revival began in the 1990s.
That revival took off when modern craft breweries began to open in the city: the Syracuse Suds Factory brought local brewing back in
1991, followed by Empire Brewing Company in 1994 and Middle Ages Brewing Company in 1995.
Since then, the region’s beer scene has exploded. According to one estimate, there are over 20 breweries and craft-beverage-destinations
in Syracuse and nearby Onondaga County — offering locals and tourists a full “brewery trail” to explore.

Willow Rock Brewing Company
One of the newer but popular breweries in the area, Willow Rock brings a relaxed, modern brewpub vibe — often with
a large selection of beers, including seltzers and ciders.
Their venue offers indoor/outdoor seating, and has a reputation for being welcoming to families (and dogs), making it
a more casual, accessible option.
Some of their beers have also drawn acclaim: for example, their Farmhouse Ale won a gold medal in the 2018 Great
