🥖 Traditional Baking Powder Biscuits
A classic, high-rising recipe for fluffy, golden-brown biscuits that come together in minutes using simple pantry staples.
Ingredients
- 4 cups flour
- 8 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 heaping teaspoons shortening
- 2 cups milk
Baking Instructions
🌡️ Oven Temp: 450°F
- Preheat your oven to a hot 450°F and grease a standard cookie sheet.
- Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt into a large mixing bowl to ensure even distribution.
- Cut in the shortening using a pastry blender or a sturdy fork until the mixture breaks down into uniform, pea-sized crumbs.
- Pour in the milk and stir gently, working the mixture just until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured cutting board and knead it very gently a few times to smooth it out.
- Roll the dough out evenly to about ½-inch thickness. Press straight down with a biscuit cutter to stamp out your biscuits.
- Arrange the biscuits on your prepared cookie sheet.
- Bake at 450°F for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the tops are beautifully puffed and lightly golden brown.
