Macy’s in Syracuse and Onondaga County

   As of December 2025, there is only one full-line Macy’s department store serving Syracuse and all of Onondaga County — the longtime anchor location at Destiny USA. Macy’s has significantly scaled back its Upstate New York footprint in recent years, and Central New York fortunately avoided the 2025 wave of 66 nationwide closures.

   This is a large, full-service Macy’s with women’s, men’s, kids, beauty, fragrance, jewelry, shoes, handbags, home/furniture gallery, and a robust Macy’s Backstage section offering discounted designer and name-brand items. It includes popular services like:

• Wedding/gift registry
• Watch/ jewelry repair
• In-store alterations

   The store remains one of Destiny USA’s original anchors (dating back to the Carousel Center days) and continues to draw strong traffic, especially during holiday seasons, Black Friday, and major sales events. Locals appreciate it as the only convenient place in the region for mid-to-upscale department store shopping without driving to Rochester, Albany, or New York City.

Former Location (Closed)

   The previous Macy’s at ShoppingTown Mall in DeWitt (3561 Erie Blvd E, DeWitt, NY 13214) permanently closed in March 2021 when the mall was demolished for redevelopment. As of late 2025, Onondaga County has taken ownership of that former Macy’s building after legal proceedings — no plans for a Macy’s return there.

   Bottom line: If you want Macy’s in the Syracuse area, Destiny USA is your only option — and it’s still going strong in 2025. Many CNY shoppers combine visits with other Destiny attractions or use the Macy’s app/credit card for extra savings and curbside pickup.

Macy’s Stores Just Outside the Greater Syracuse Area

   With the 2021 closures of the former ShoppingTown Mall location in DeWitt and the Sangertown Square store in New Hartford (the latter had been a Central New York staple since the mall’s early days), Destiny USA remains the only Macy’s serving Onondaga County and the immediate Syracuse region.

   The next closest full-line Macy’s department store is a solid Thruway drive away in the Rochester suburbs — there simply are no others in the Utica-Rome, Finger Lakes (Waterloo Outlets has no Macy’s), Binghamton, Watertown, or Cortland areas.

• Distance from downtown Syracuse/Destiny USA: ~75–80 miles west via I-90 (~1 hour 15–20 minutes, though Macy’s site lists it as 64 miles store-to-store)
   This is a large, high-performing full-line Macy’s that serves the entire Rochester metro and Finger Lakes region. It offers:
• Complete departments (women’s, men’s, kids, beauty, fragrance, jewelry, shoes, handbags, home/furniture gallery)
• Macy’s Backstage section for deep discounts
• Personal styling
• Alterations
• Wedding registry
• Watch/jewelry repair
• Beauty services

   Eastview Mall itself is upscale (with Von Maur, Apple, L.L.Bean, Pottery Barn, etc.), making this the clear #1 Macy’s destination for Syracusans who want a “better” or larger Macy’s experience than Destiny USA provides. Locals regularly road-trip here for major sales (One Day Sale, Black Friday previews), furniture purchases, or when the Syracuse store is picked over. It’s especially popular when combined with stops at Wegmans Canandaigua, Waterloo Premium Outlets (45 minutes closer), or Finger Lakes wineries.

   Beyond Victor, the next full-line Macy’s locations are approximately 140 miles away:
• Walden Galleria (Cheektowaga/Buffalo area)
• Crossgates Mall and Colonie Center (Albany area)

   These survived the 2025 wave of 66 nationwide closures, but Macy’s Upstate NY footprint is now extremely limited. For most Central New York shoppers, Victor is the only realistic “nearby” alternative to Destiny USA.
